 Коли йому було 6, його мати залишила його. Він вижив завдяки тому, що жебракував та мив вікна авто біля світлофорів. Взимку, коли температура досягала -35С, він спав у вагонах, бо там тепліше. Влітку він живе разом із друзями в закинутому будинку. Діма вміє трошки читати, але не може писати; в нього немає ніяких документів або паперів, що засвідчують його особу. Без Вашої допомоги за два роки він перетвориться на злочинника. Або помре.

Orphans |
| According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, there were over 103 thousand children in Ukraine who were either orphans or children either abandoned by their parents, or whose parents were deprived of parental custody (the figures used in this article have been picked up from different sources and averaged; there are considerable discrepancies in figures given in different sources). |

Street children |
Street children, street kids or street urchins are homeless children who live on the street – in particular, those that are not taken care of by parents or other adults. Street children live in abandoned builidings, containers, automobiles, parks, or on the street itself. Estimates vary but one often-cited figure is that the number of children living independently in the streets totals between 100 million and 150 million worldwide. |

Child prostitution |
| Children continued to be victims of violence and abuse. The Voice of Ukraine newspaper reported that, in response to a January 2004 poll by the State Institute of Family and Youth, 43 percent of minors said that they had been victims of some form of violence. During 2003, 300 criminal cases were opened against parents for neglect of parental duties. The majority of complaints of abuse of children related to child prostitution, pornographic video sales, child molestation, and illegal child labor. |
